My winter break did not even seem like a break, it felt like I went to school, without actually going, and having homework 24/7. All of my teachers assigned homework over break, in addition to getting assigned health to finish this semester. I also volunteered at the local animal shelter, the Porterville Police Department Animal Control. It was a fun experience because I got to experience how hard working the workers are at the shelter with my AVID sister. I enjoyed going because we got assigned a different job each time we went; my favorite being cleaning the cat pen because it was warm and the cats were friendly. For Christmas and New Years I stayed home and had family over. We stayed up until midnight on Christmas so we can open our presents. On New Years we did all the usual New Year's traditions: toasted sparkling cider, hugging everyone, etc. I tried to rest up during winter break because during school nights, I would stay up until 2 in the morning in order to finish homework, or to study for test the morning of. I would have a messed up sleep schedule to the point where I would just get home and eat something real quick and then take a 2-3 hour nap. Then wake up to shower, eat again and finish my homework. So this three week break was a break I desperately needed.
The reality of the first semester hit me after the first month of school. My first semester was hectic. Last year, the seniors told me that senior year would be the easiest year in high school. That fell to be true because the first week of school, for one of my classes, we had to turn in homework we did over break, and take a test. I regret a lot of things I did not do the first semester. However, the thing I regret the most was procrastinating. I procrastinated so much in all of my classes that it came back and kicked me in the butt. I have been stressing all throughout the first semester because all of my teachers hold high expectations of me and I could not make them disappointed. Another thing I was stressing about the first semester was college applications. I applied to ten colleges, CSU San Francisco, CSU Long Beach, CSU Northridge, CSU Sacramento, UC Irvine, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Riverside, Johnson and Wales University and Seton Hall University. As of right now, I have not been accepted and/or declined to any college, because I applied for regular decision. In addition to all the applications, I had to apply to scholarships because I know my parents alone would not be able to support me throughout college in addition to raising my five other siblings.
